About

Focusing on themes such as business operations, leadership, human resources, career development, management and technology, HR whY? attempts to provide a different perspective than what floods the knowledge base today.  That perspective is of a human resources professional that is “labeled” as Generation Y but doesn’t quite act like it.

According to Wikipedia, Generation Y, also referred to as Millennials or Echo Boomers, describes the demographic cohort following Generation X.  They generally represent the children of the Baby Boomer generation.  Characteristics of the generation vary by region, depending on social and economic conditions. However, it is generally marked by an increased use and familiarity with communications, media, and digital technologies.

The ideas that led to the creation of this blog revolve around my feeling that using generational labels is just an excuse to stereotype someone and work around them.  I may have been born in what is considered to be the Generation Y era but those who know me have realized that I do not quite fit the bill.

In my opinion, the perspectives of people similar to myself are underrepresented in the business community today.  Rather than working with with people with varying personalities and backgrounds we are commonly labeled generationally and worked against or around, leaving us in some cases disengaged, demoralized and disloyal to employers.

I am a human resources professional.  Regardless of my generation I am smart, ambitious, inquisitive, technologically advanced, and have a tremendous amount to offer to those who are willing to work with me.  Take a chance, you will not be disappointed.
