I am very excited to welcome you to my very own human resources themed blog. You probably know me as the creator and editor of HR Gumbo, the official blog of the Big Bend Society for Human Resource Management. For almost a year, I was the head chef of HR Gumbo and am very thankful for all of the support, especially from the HR blogging community.
When I developed the concept behind HR Gumbo, I modeled it after what Kris Dunn did with Fistful of Talent. He developed one source where multiple subject matter experts provided content related to a specific profession; an outlet to share trials, tribulations, successes, and opinions regarding his professional interests.
As I look back over the past year at this little project I drew up on a napkin and think about the impact HR Gumbo had on our chapter and Human Resource professionals across the globe, it blows my mind. I am pretty sure my team of bloggers took everyone by surprise.
With the end of 2009, I transitioned from my role as President of Big Bend SHRM and in that transition, passed on my social media duties and HR Gumbo to the next group of leaders. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. With this change I have been able to develop HR Why? – something I’ve been planning on doing, but simply did not have the time, for over a year. In addition, I have taken on a more substantial role with the HR Florida State Council as the 2010 Social Media Director. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am with these opportunities.
Although the look and feel of this site will most likely change in the near future, please come back to visit. I will continue to blog on the topic of human resources but plan to expand into business leadership and organizational development as that is my background. Of course I will be writing from the perspective of Generation Y like I did for HR Gumbo.
I would like to extend my gratitude to some great friends who have helped me get all of this together over the past few weeks. Ben (UpstartHR), your constant nagging and harassment finally paid off. Allen (Logic Writer), your Dreamweaver “wizardry” amazes me, even if Ben did make it up. Thanks to Shauna (HR Minion) and April (Pseudo HR)for sharing all of their lame name ideas and helping me come up with HR Why?. I am proud to call you each my friend and even prouder to be a party of this incredible HR blogging community.

Yay for the new site!!! It looks great!
I am very proud of you son. You should send this to your old teachers, in particular Mrs. Douglas who said she thought you should go into “speech writing” as a field because you are strong in your writing skills. Hmm, maybe you should write a book someday!
